Bhubaneswar, August 1: Mayor Sulochana Das of Bhubaneswar has stated that the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is prepared to demolish illegally-constructed apartments within its jurisdiction if the Odisha government permit and provides funds for the demolition.
However, the BMC currently lacks the necessary funds for compensation. If the government allocates the required funds, the BMC will proceed with the demolition.
Mayor Das emphasized that constructing houses illegally by encroaching on drains or government land is unacceptable and violates regulations. This statement follows the revelation that 719 cases related to illegal apartment construction have been registered in the state, with 689 of those cases falling under BMC and BDA jurisdiction.
