Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Green waste of the city will get its ultimate use to produce Bio-gas and organic manure. In a high-level event today, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have come forward to sing up the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a 200 TPD Compressed Bio-gas plant at a cost of Rs 175 crore.
The project is expected to be completed on a land area of 8 acres, in a period of 2 years from start of construction.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushnachandra Mohapatra graced the occasion as chief guest of the programme.
“The initiative will reduce the burden of waste in TTS Bhubaneswar. About 200 Metric Tons of waste will be processed to produce Bio-gas and organic manure. Odisha government has planned to scale up this type of project in other cities of Odisha. Oil India will establish and manage the project. The government has sanctioned required land for the project,” said the Minister.
He requested OIL to complete the project before stipulated period of 2 years to make a vibe in the field of sanitation in capital city.
Housing and Urban Development Department secretary Usha Padhee described the project as an innovative step to go development and environment in tandem.
“This is the only example where development, environment and people’s wellbeing will go hand in hand. Urban body will get the disposal of waste material. Ultimately a good environment will be maintained. There will be lot of technology, economic activities and employment generation through this project. Ultimately community will be benefited out of this project,” she said.
BMC Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil said, “This is a compressed Bio-gas plant to be implemented in collaboration with OIL and an advanced scientific processing of waste under the cleanliness drive. Wet waste of the city will be recycled to produce Bio-gas. This is the green energy and important alternative of fossil-based fuel. This will enhance the beauty and environment of the city, thereby promoting the livability indicator”.
“Under the green initiative, Oil India Limited (OIL) has collaborated with BMC to process Municipal Solid waste to produce natural Gas and Organic Manure. The project will involve more than 150 core of Capital investment. This initiative will support raising the amount of natural gas production in the country. When India is importing natural gas, such projects will support the need of our country,” said Chairman and Managing Director of OIL.
