Bhubaneswar, December 16: The much-awaited repair work of the Ratna Bhandar (treasury) at the Puri Jagannath Temple is set to begin tomorrow, marking a significant step towards preserving the heritage of this sacred site. The Ratna Bhandar believed to house invaluable treasures of Lord Jagannath, has not been opened for inspection or repairs since 1985.
The decision to undertake the repair work follows recommendations from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) after structural weaknesses were identified in the chamber during a previous inspection. The repairs will focus on addressing safety concerns, sealing cracks, and reinforcing the structure to ensure its longevity.
Strict security measures have been implemented, with the Odisha Police and temple administration working in tandem to safeguard the premises during the repair process. The Srimandira Managing Committee has emphasized maintaining the sanctity of the site while ensuring transparency in the repair work.
Devotees and locals have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the restoration will protect the historic Ratna Bhandar while preserving its spiritual and cultural significance for future generations.
