New Delhi, December 16: Grammy-winning flutist Rakesh Chaurasia paid a heartfelt tribute to Zakir Hussain, the tabla maestro who passed away at 73 in a San Francisco hospital on Monday.
Remembered as the "god of tabla," Hussain was the son of legendary Ustad Alla Rakha and a musician who elevated the tabla to global prominence.
"We often say that tabla begins with 'A' for Alla Rakha and ends with 'Z' for Zakir Hussain," said Chaurasia. Recalling his legacy, Chaurasia added, "He was my second guru after my uncle, Hariprasad Chaurasia. Zakir Hussain gave young musicians a platform to thrive."
Hussain's unmatched contributions to Indian classical music will remain a guiding light for generations of artists.
