New Delhi, March 5: The Central government approved two major ropeway projects in Uttarakhand — connecting Sonprayag to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji — with a combined investment of Rs 6,811 crore. These projects are aimed at significantly reducing travel time to these prominent pilgrimage destinations while also promoting tourism in the region.
The ambitious ropeway projects are expected to be completed within 4-6 years. They will be developed under the National Ropeways Development Programme, also known as the Parvatmala Pariyojana.
The approval was given by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the announcement made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
