Odisha : Central team reviews damages caused by Cyclone Dana

Bhubaneswar, November 26: The inter- Ministerial central team, led by joint secretary P.K. Rai is in currently in Odisha to assess the dameges caused by Cyclone Dana. 

 The team visited the worst affected districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Balasore to evaluate the impact on infrastructure, agriculture and other sectors

The team also met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesady and appraised about the situation.

On November 24, the team reached Bhubaneswar and had visited the three worst affected districts- Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Balasore- to assess the impact of the cyclone on the ground.

During the meeting, CM Majhi emphasized the need for disaster- resilient infrastructure to mitigate the impact of such natural calamities in the future.

The Chief Minister noted that steps should be taken to build underground power cables, coastal embankments, and mangrove forests in the coastal districts of the state to avoid damage by natural disasters.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari who was present at the meeting highlighted the economic benefits of sustainable infrastructure. 

Odisha will receive compensation from the union government on the basis of the damage report prepared by the state government and the on-the-spot assessment by the central team.

Notably, the Severe Cyclonic storm 'Dana' that hit the Odisha coast on October 25 has caused damages to the tune of over Rs 600 crore, as per the assessment of the state government.
