Balasore, June 17: At least five people were injured in a clash between two groups in the Patrapada locality of Balasore town on Monday. The authorities responded by imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC.
Following the violent incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke with the district collector of Balasore and directed immediate measures to control the situation, according to official sources. The CM emphasized that maintaining law and order is paramount and urged everyone to maintain peace and discipline, reiterating Odisha’s reputation as a peace-loving state.
The violence erupted on Chandipur-Balasore road near Patrapada, where both groups engaged in stone-pelting, resulting in injuries to at least five people, including a police officer. Around 20 vehicles were damaged during the confrontation.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were enforced in areas between Pir Bazaar and Patrapada under Town Police limits to prevent further violence, according to police reports.
Sources indicate that the trouble started when a red liquid, resembling blood, was seen flowing along the road near Patrapada. This led to a protest at Patrapada Chhak by some individuals, which provoked another group to start throwing stones at the protesters.
The clash not only injured five people but also caused significant damage to about 20 vehicles and severely disrupted vehicular movement in the area. In response to the ongoing tension, a substantial police presence has been deployed in the locality to prevent any further escalation.
