Bhubaneswar. April 1: A third-year B.Tech student from KIIT University has allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a seven-storey under-construction building in the Mancheswar area of Bhubaneswar. The deceased has been identified as Arnav Mukherjee, who hailed from the Bankura district of West Bengal.
Mukherjee, a resident of the KIIT University hostel, reportedly took his own life on Monday night. His identity was confirmed on Tuesday. Following the incident, the Mancheswar Police Station registered a case of unnatural death. The body has been sent to the Capital Hospital for a post-mortem examination, said sources.
This incident comes at a sensitive time for the university, which recently faced scrutiny following allegations of ill-treatment towards Nepali students. These students were protesting, demanding justice for a female student who was found dead inside her hostel room on the university premises in February. This earlier incident had already placed the university under significant public attention and government scrutiny.
The circumstances surrounding Arnav Mukherjee's suicide are currently under investigation. Police are working to determine the factors that led to this tragic event, sources added.
