Baripada, April 3: A class VI student of a school in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district was allegedly assaulted by his seniors of the school. The class- VI student has sustained critical injuries after the class IX students thrashed him with an iron rod and attacked him with a sharp object.
The incident took place in the hostel of Basipitha High School under Khunta police limits in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.
Although the alleged ragging incident occurred in February, the matter only came to light after the victim shared his experience with his parents recently. This led them to file a police complaint on Wednesday.
As per the complaint, the incident occurred after the victim reported his seniors doing some illegal activities inside the hostel premises to the headmaster. The seniors in a fit of rage locked the student in a room, subjected him to physical torture including beating him with an iron rod, cutting his hands with a blade and pouring salt on the wound.
Police said they are investigating the matter. However, they said during the probe, some students who witnessed the incident confirmed that the boy was beaten up with a rod with hands tied up in a belt.
