Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: The Odisha-Chhattisgarh border is now on high alert following the biggest crackdown on the Maoists wherein at least 36 naxalites were eliminated in and around the Mao-infested Bastar and Dantewada forests on Friday.
The Odisha Police in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh Police and the BSF contingents, have kept vigil on the porous pass ways of both the states anticipating the transits and hideouts of naxalites in the states’ adjacent areas for the hurricaning strikes of police that neutralized a hepty number of Naxalites in Bastar and Dantewada areas.
With the information from the Chhattisgarh Home Department, the Odisha government has asked SPs of the bordering districts to remain alert with essential logistics as a number of cadres and militias are anticipated to enter into the Odisha forests, scared by the security stirike.
In one of the significant anti-naxalites operation in Chhattisgarh on firday at least 36 maoists have been yet neutralized in an encounter with security personnel in the Bastar region.
According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, the gunfight broke out at around 1 pm on Friday in the Bastar forest between Thulthuli and Nendur villages in Abhujmaad on the Narayanpur-Dantewada inter-district border. Meanwhile, the Maoists opened fire to which the security forces responded violently.
Personnel belonging to District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation.
Bodies of 36 Naxalites along with a cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and one SLR (self-loading rifle), were recovered from the encounter spot so far, the official said.
Combing operation is underway in the area for which more casualties are anticipated, the IG said.
