Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ over Northeast Bay of Bengal weakened into a cyclonic storm and crossed Bangladesh coast to the south of Chittagong in the wee hours of Wednesday.
It crossed Bangladesh coast between 1:30 am and 2:30 am today as a cyclonic storm with wind speed of 75-85 kmph gusting to 95 kmph.
As per the Met department, it lay centered at 0230 hours IST of October 25 over coastal Bangladesh near latitude 22.0°N and longitude 92.0°E, about 180 km east of Khepupara and 40 km south-southeast of Chittagong in Bangladesh.
The cyclone is very likely to move in Northeastwards direction and weaken into a deep depression during the next six hours and further into a depression during the subsequent six hours.
Fortunately, Odisha is not anticipated to witness any impact of the cyclonic storm. But a few northern coastal areas of the state may receive light to moderate rainfall today.
