Dead man revives after ambulance hits speed breaker in Maharashtra

Kolhapur, Jan 3: Imagine heading to a funeral, overwhelmed with grief, only to discover that the loved one you were mourning was still alive. That’s exactly what happened to Pandurang Ulpe’s family in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, when a simple speed bump turned their heartbreak into a miraculous reunion.

As per reports, 65-year-old Pandurang, hailing from Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, was being taken for his final rites when something incredible happened—a speed bump brought him back to life.

The incident occurred on December 16. Ulpe had just returned home from his farm when he began feeling uneasy and started vomiting. Alarmed, his wife immediately sought help.

Ulpe was first rushed to a private hospital in Kasba Bawda, where doctors suspected a heart attack. “They told us he’d suffered a heart attack and referred us to another private hospital,” his grandson, Omkar Ramane, shared.

At the second hospital, Ulpe’s condition worsened. He vomited blood, and despite efforts by the doctors, they declared him dead. “We were devastated. We cleared the bills and informed our relatives about his passing,” Ramane recounted. The family began preparations for his funeral and started their journey to the cremation ground.

But as the ambulance carrying Ulpe's body hit a speed breaker near Chougule Galli in Kasba Bawda, something unbelievable happened. “His fingers started moving. One of our relatives checked his pulse and found it was still there. We couldn’t believe it,” Ramane said.

The family immediately turned the ambulance around and rushed him to CPR Hospital. Unfortunately, the hospital had no available beds, so they redirected him to DY Patil Hospital.

A doctor at DY Patil Hospital described the situation as critical. “He was near collapse. We performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation to restore blood flow and placed him on a ventilator. An ECG revealed a blockage, so we transferred him to another hospital for angioplasty.” After a two-day stay, Ulpe began to recover.

To the family’s relief and amazement, Ulpe was fully stabilized and discharged on December 30. A video of him walking back into his home, welcomed by cheering relatives, went viral on social media, making his miraculous survival a local sensation.

While the family celebrates Ulpe’s second chance at life, questions remain about the hospital that initially declared him dead. Kolhapur Municipal Corporation officials have launched an investigation into the incident.

“Doctors cannot declare someone dead without a thorough examination. We will look into this matter,” said Prakash Pavra, the chief health officer of the corporation.
