New Delhi, Feb 8: As the counting of votes for the recently held Delhi assembly elections is underway, early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returning to power in the National Capital after 27 years.
As per the latest trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in 44 seats, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 26 seats. The Congress was trailing with zero seats.
As per the early trends depicted by the Election Commission, BJP is currently leading on Narela, Rithala, Bawana, Kirari, Shalimar Bagh, Tri Nagar, Ballimaran, Madipur, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala, Najafgarh, Palam, Delhi Cantt, Kasturba Nagar, RK Puram, Chhatarpur, Sangam Vihar, Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Ghonda, Mustafabad and Karawal Nagar seats.
Meanwhile, the AAP is leading in 27 seats, including Chandni Chowk, Rajinder Nagar, Greater Kailash, Trilokpuri, Seemapuri, and Babarpur.
Notably, the majority mark to form the government in the National Capital is 36.
In addition to Delhi, counting for by-elections in Uttar Pradesh's Milkipur seat and Tamil Nadu's Erode seat is also ongoing. All necessary security arrangements have been made.
