New Delhi, February 16: The Indian Railways' two-member probe panel has begun reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence related to the New Delhi Railway Station stampede, officials informed on Sunday. Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) Narsingh Deo stated that eyewitness statements will be recorded before submitting a report to the administration.

Earlier today, senior Delhi Police officials held a high-level meeting at the DCP Railways office to assess the initial inquiry. A DCP-rank officer is leading the police investigation, with six additional companies deployed to manage crowd control as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Officials also discussed improving announcement systems and legal measures.

The stampede, which occurred at 10 p.m. on February 15, claimed 18 lives as massive crowds gathered to travel to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival. The deceased include Aaha Devi (79), Pinky Devi (41), Sheela Devi (50), and several others.

Indian Railways has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased, ₹2.5 lakh for the seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for minor injuries. The incident reportedly began when a passenger lost balance on the stairs between platforms 14 and 15, triggering chaos.
