Balangir, February 7: A firefight between police and Maoists broke out in Odisha’s Balangir on Friday.
Balangir SP informed that the fire exchange continues in the Gandhamardan Hill between the security personnel and LWEs, following a face to face in the forest.
According to the SP, armed police forces acting on a tip off, initiated a combing operation in the Gandhamardan forest from the wee hours. Meanwhile, the security personnel sniffed the signature of red ultras in the deep forest. As the forces marched ahead the Maoists opened fire to which the security forces responded.
The gunfight is yet on. More contingents of security forces are mobilized to the spot said the SP.
