Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Former Salipur MLA Prakash Chandra Behera quit BJD on Thursday around six months after joining the party. He has tendered his resignation letter to BJD president Naveen Patnaik.
Behera, who was president of BJP’s Cuttack district unit, had resigned from the party on March 29 and unsuccessfully contested from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency on BJD ticket, but lost to Congress’ Sofia Firdous.
Behera had won from Salepur Assembly segment in 2014 on a Congress ticket and later joined BJP ahead of 2019 elections. He contested from Salipur again but lost to BJD’s Prashant Behera.
Talking to media persons, Behera said he is considering to join a national party, however, remained tight-lipped about the name of the party.
"I believe in nationalism. Nationalism is my ideology and I will work for Cuttack and Salipur people," said Behera expressing his desire to contest from Salipur or Cuttack.
His close sources informed that the former MLA is mulling to join the BJP.
