Government Intervenes: Controversial 'India's Got Latent' featuring Ranveer Allahbadia Episode Removed from YouTube in India

Mumbai: In a significant development that has shaken India's digital content landscape, YouTube has removed the controversial episode of "India's Got Latent," hosted by Samay Raina, following government intervention and legal complaints. The episode, which featured prominent content creators Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, is now unavailable for viewing in India.

The controversy stemmed from inappropriate remarks and questions posed by Ranveer Allahbadia during the show, which was initially accessible only to channel members. Despite attempts to contain the situation by editing out the controversial segments, the episode faced complete removal under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2008. This legal provision empowers the government to restrict online content that could impact India's sovereignty, defense, and public order.

Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, confirmed the government's directive to make the episode "unavailable" in India. Non-compliance with such orders can result in imprisonment for up to seven years.

While host Samay Raina has maintained silence throughout the controversy, Ranveer Allahbadia has taken responsibility for his actions. In a public apology video posted on his social media accounts, Allahbadia acknowledged his inappropriate behavior, stating, "My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry." He has since removed all content related to the show from his social media platforms, leaving only the apology video.

The incident has escalated to legal proceedings, with the Guwahati Police filing an FIR against all participants. The case, registered as Cyber PS case no 03/2025, includes charges under various sections of BNS 2023, IT Act, 2000, Cinematograph Act 1952, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, as confirmed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
