Bhubaneswar, April 20: As thundershowers took a backseat, temperatures across Odisha soared on Sunday, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest spot in the state at a sweltering 43.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a total of 11 locations recorded maximum daytime temperatures of 40°C or higher, signaling the onset of intense summer conditions.
Bolangir trailed close behind at 42.4°C, while Titilagarh registered 42°C. Other hotspots included Sambalpur (41.9°C), Sundergarh (41.8°C), Boudh (41.5°C), and both Hirakud and Sonepur at 41.3°C. Nuapada (41°C), Bhawanipatna (40.8°C), and Rourkela (40.1°C) also experienced searing heat.
The IMD warns that the heatwave-like conditions may persist unless the state sees a return of pre-monsoon showers in the coming days.
