Dhenkanal, Apr 21: In a gruesome incident, miscreants allegedly shot dead a youth in Karigar Sahi under Dhenkanal Town Police limits in Odisha late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Behera alias Titu.
As per reports, Titu was returning home at around 11 PM when a group of miscreants suddenly opened fire on him near his house. He sustained two bullet injuries in his leg and collapsed on the spot. Thereafter, the assailants allegedly dragged him to another location and brutally bludgeoned him to death by smashing his head with a stone.
After hearing gunshots, Titu's wife ran out of the house, but the attackers had already escaped. Locals rescued Titu and rushed him to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Though the exact reason behind the gruesome killing is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that it might be fallout of past enmity.
Titu's wife said that the same men had attacked him a month ago and broke his hand.
An investigating has been initiated into the matter. So far, two people have been arrested and efforts are on to ascertained other details regarding the killing, said the police.
