Baripada, Oct 26: The CT-GST sleuths seized a huge cache of gold ornaments in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday that was reportedly smuggled from Mumbai to Odisha in a logistic van.
Following a rigorous interception, the illegal gold along with the Sequel Logistic Van was seized by the CT-GST officials.
Sources said, the illegal gold ornaments weighing at least 15-20 KG, were being illegally supplied to Baripada and Balasore areas with fudging CT-GST and other duties levied on it.
CT-GST sources said, an enforcement team intercepted the Sequel Logistic van delivering gold ornaments to a jeweller in Baripada. During, an inventory, a good cache of illegal gold ornaments was recovered with some forged bills.
During interrogation, the bearer of the vehicle could not properly substantiate the supplied gold with documents following which the vehicle and the valuables were seized.
Deputy Commissioner, CT-GST Kulamani Mallik said, verification of records regarding the illegal delivery of gold to various jewelers is underway.
Hefty amount of penalty will be imposed on the peddler, if he is found guilty, Mallik added.
