Sonepur, April 28: The idol of Gopalji temple of Sonepur, which was stolen by some miscreants, is languishing in CBI Malkhana in Bhubaneswar since last 27 years. Even though the CBI managed to recover the idol, which was stolen in 1982, from Delhi, the idol is yet to be installed at the temple as it is languishing in the Malkhana after being embroiled in the legal hurdles. The idol of Gopalji was installed in 1635 at the temple of Sonepur king’s palace. In 2009, the CBI court ordered to return the theft idol. However, it is yet to be installed in the temple as no efforts have been taken by the district administration and the endowment authority.
