K’taka, March 8: With a shocking incident, an Israeli woman tourist and her host, were gang raped in Karnataka on Thursday.
The gang rape was followed by a brutal murder that’s an Odisha man was killed being pushed into canal as he raised protest on the scene.
Two more tourists were thrown into deep water in the canal who witnessed the heinous crime on the spot, to erase all the signs from the crime scene.
The horrific incident though came to light on Saturday, had taken place in the wee hours of Thursday at the Sanapura village under the Gangavathi Rural police, a few Kilometers away from the Hampi UNESCO site.
The deceased Odia tourist, whose body was fished out from the Tungabhadra Left Canal at Sanapura, has been identified as Bibasha.
According to the Police, a woman operating a homestay at the Sanapura area had taken a group of tourists including an Israeli woman, accommodated at her premises, for stargazing. While, they were enjoying the sightseeing late at night some bike-laden miscreants arrived there and attacked the tourists. Meanwhile, they took the Israeli woman and the homestay owner to a secluded place and gang raped. As an Odia tourist present there, raised voice against the barbarism, he was pushed into the Tungabhadra Left Canal. Two others, witnessing the brutal episodes of the miscreants few meters away, were also thrown into the deep water, to erase all circumstantial proofs.
The brutal incident came to light when two tourists, thrown into the canal managed to come out of water and informed the police.
Acting on it, the police initiated a search operation for the missing Odia tourist. Meanwhile, his body was fished out and sent for postmortem.
The rape survivors are now under treatment. Their statements were recorded and medical examination revealing sexual assaults were conducted.
Extensive raids and manhunts by the police are underway to apprehend the miscreants soon.
