Kota/ Mayurbhanj, Jan 17: In a tragic incident, a JEE aspirant from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj allegedly committed suicide in his paying guest room in Rajasthan’s Kota.
The deceased student has been identified as Abhijeet Giri (18). He had been residing in Kota since April 2024 and was preparing for JEE.
As per reports, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in Jain Villa Residency Hostel in Ambedkar Colony under Vigyan Nagar police limits in Kota.
Hostel owner Rajendra Jain stated that during a conversation with Abhijeet on January 15 about the rent, Abhijeet mentioned that he would stay for one more month. At around 8 p.m. on January 16, when the mess man came to deliver tiffin, Abhijeet did not open the door. Thereafter, the door was broken and Abhijeet was found hanging from the ceiling fan, said Rajendra. Following this, they alerted the cops.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and brought the body down before seizing it. The postmortem of the body will be done after the arrival of the family members, the police said.
Further investigation into the matter was underway to ascertain the circumstances that prompted Abhijeet to take the extreme step.
Notably, this is the third student suicide in Kota within the first month of 2025. Previously, two students took their own lives on January 7 and January 8.
