Bhubaneswar, February 26: In an unprecedented incident, a servitor of Shree Lingaraj in Bhubaneswar fell off the temple on Wednesday while lifing the Mahadipa on Maha Shivaratri.
The servitor was hospitalized soon as he reportedly sustained critical injuries at his head and pelvis.
According to report, after the Bedha Parikrama rituals wherein servitors move around the temple, the holy lamp was lit and then the prime servitor was carrying the sacred lamp for the top. Meanwhile, he fell off the temple wall with the ignited lamp and sustained injuries. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital for treatment wherin he was put in the ICU for his grievous injuries.
Consequently, the Mahadipa was managed to be carried by another servitor and placed atop the temple at about 10.40 PM, a bit later than the schedule.
On being informed of the mishap in the Shree Lingaraj premises, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi accompanied by Dy. CMs Pravati Parida, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Law Minister Prithwivraj Harichandan visited the Capital hospital and enquired of the health condition of the servitor.
