Dates and Stay

Mahakumbh 2025 has begun in Prayagraj, and it is getting more and more eventful. This 45-day congregation, which commenced today January 13th, is expected to draw around 450 million (45 crores) devotees to the sacred Triveni Sangam. Whether you plan to visit on the auspicious bathing days or opt for less crowded dates, these pointers may help you during a planned visit to the Maha kumbh 2025

The Mahakumbh 2025 offers six significant bathing days, each holding special spiritual meaning. These dates are expected to draw the largest crowds, with millions of devotees seeking to immerse themselves in the holy waters.

The three main Shahi Snan (royal bathing) dates are:

  • January 14th: Makar Sankranti
  • January 29th: Mauni Amavasya
  • February 3rd: Basant Panchami

Three additional auspicious bathing days are:

  • January 13th: Paush Purnima
  • February 12th: Maghi Purnima
  • February 26th: Maha Shivratri

Prefering a calmer, less crowded experience, consider visiting on other than these six dates. The Mahakumbh spans for 45 days, offering an ample opportunity to participate in the rituals at a pace that suits you.

Accommodation

With millions of pilgrims converging on Prayagraj, securing accommodation is essential. The Prayagraj Kumbh Mela Authority and the Uttar Pradesh State Government have made extensive arrangements to accommodate the influx of devotees.

Several tent cities have been erected near the Triveni Sangam, offering a range of options, from premium tents and makeshift shelters to dormitories. The Union Ministry of Tourism's India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has also established 80 luxury accommodations within the tent city, and the IRCTC is providing luxury tents as well.

The ITDC camp, known as Mahakumbh Gram, offers Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and Premium Suite tents, which can be booked on their official Kumbh City website. This tent city provides luxurious amenities, including yoga and meditation sessions, cultural performances, traditional cookery classes, Ayurvedic massages, guided tours, Wi-Fi, and security.

Religious organizations and Akharas (monastic orders) have also set up camps, offering accommodation to their followers and other pilgrims and devotees. Staying near the Triveni Sangam, whether in tent cities or Akhara camps, is recommended for an un-forgetful pilgrimage experience.

Beyond the tent cities, Prayagraj offers a variety of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly lodges. However, booking well in advance is crucial due to high demand.

For the road

The Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet, is located approximately 23 kilometers from Prayagraj's Bamrauli Airport and 10 kilometers from Prayagraj Junction railway station.

Plan accordingly, along with one’s preferred dates and accommodation choices. Whether on Shahi Snan dates or for a more tranquil experience, Mahakumbh 2025 offers a unique experience for a profound spiritual awakening.
