New Delhi , October 27 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned the nation on Sunday about the 'digital arrest' scam, clarifying that no government agency threatens individuals over the phone or demands money.
In the 115th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the risks associated with the "digital arrest" scam, a growing cyber fraud trend where scammers impersonate officials from institutions like the police, CBI, RBI, and narcotics departments.
Describing the scam’s process, he explained that fraudsters initially gather personal details, create fear, and pressurize victims, leading many to lose significant money.
PM Modi emphasized that no government agency demands payments or issues threats over the phone. He urged citizens to follow three key steps for digital security: "stop, think, and act." He also suggested taking screenshots or recording such calls for evidence.
To combat these scams, Modi mentioned that the National Cyber Coordination Centre works with state agencies to counter these digital frauds. He encouraged schools and colleges to engage students in raising awareness about cyber safety, advocating for a collective approach to tackle the challenge.
