Baripada, March 15: A large quantity of illegally extracted sand, stockpiled near the Sonali River in Kaptipada, Mayurbhanj district, was seized by a joint team of officials from the Mining Department, Tahasildar, and Police on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the team raided the site and discovered over 230 truckloads of sand, which had been illegally extracted and stored for smuggling. The sand, valued at a significant amount, was seized during the operation.

The Tahasildar, along with the Mining Officer, initiated the process to auction the seized sand. However, as no bidders came forward, the sand will be re-auctioned at a later date, with the proceeds going to the government treasury.

The Tahasildar expressed that the seizure of such a large quantity of illegally stockpiled sand is a major accomplishment, and the revenue from the auction will contribute to the government's funds.
