Mumbai, Apr 2: Mumbai Police have issued a third notice to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, requesting him to appear for questioning regarding his controversial remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his recent stand-up video, "Naya Bharat," on YouTube. According to Mumbai Police, Kamra is expected to record his statement on April 5.

This follows two prior notices from the police, which Kamra failed to respond to. Authorities stated that they are investigating Kamra's satirical comments not only about Eknath Shinde but also other prominent personalities. If the investigation uncovers further disparaging remarks by Kamra about politicians, actors, or sportspersons, legal action could be taken against him.

While Kamra’s lawyer has been in contact with the police, the comedian himself has not yet communicated with them. Three separate cases have been registered against Kamra at the Khar Police Station following complaints from various individuals, including the Mayor of Jalgaon and a hotelier and businessman from Nashik.

In a related development, the Madras High Court recently granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail in connection with multiple FIRs filed against him. The court's order, issued on Friday, allows him bail until April 7, subject to certain conditions. Kamra sought transit anticipatory bail, citing threats he received following his satirical remarks. His "gaddar" (traitor) joke, which was allegedly directed at Shinde, has triggered backlash from various political leaders who have condemned his comments and called for action against him.
