New Delhi, February 10: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda launched the National Mass Drug Administration (MDA) Round to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) in 13 states including Odisha. The initiative aims to protect millions from the debilitating disease and accelerate efforts toward its elimination.
Nadda emphasized India's close progress toward eliminating LF, which is caused by the Culex mosquito and is also known as elephantiasis. He outlined a five-pronged strategy to achieve the goal ahead of the 2030 target, with a revised deadline set for 2027.
The Minister assured states of technical and financial support for the MDA campaign, which runs twice a year in 111 districts across the 13 states including Odisha. He stressed the importance of ensuring no one is left out and urged local leadership to take part in the campaign.
Nadda also called for increased awareness through digital platforms and intersectoral collaboration, highlighting the successful efforts of Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. Political involvement from MPs, MLAs, and local leaders is crucial for success, he added.
