Nepali girl Prakriti Lamsal suicide case: Police takes boyfriend Advik on three-day remand

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Infocity police in Bhubaneswar took the prime accused in the alleged suicide of Nepali girl student Prakriti Lamsal (20) at a private university in Bhubaneswar, Advik Srivastava, on a three-day remand beginning Thursday.

According to reports, Infocity police on Wednesday sought permission from a court to take Advik, the accused boyfriend of Prakriti, on a remand for further investigation.

During the remand period, police are expected to question Advik to ascertain crucial details about his connection to Prakriti. The investigation aims to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding her death.

On the other hand, the high-level fact-finding committee, formed by the Odisha government to investigate the alleged suicide case, will conduct voice spectrography of Advik.

It is worth mentioning that an audio clip went viral on social media which featured a young man verbally abusing and harassing a girl. The girl eventually breaks down in distress. In the recording, the two individuals address each other as 'Advik' and 'Prakriti'.

The voice spectrography test aims to verify whether the male voice in the audio clip belongs to accused Advik or not.

Notably, Prakriti was found dead at the hostel campus of the university on February 16. 

The incident sparked widespread outrage among students, with many taking to the streets to demand justice for the deceased. Angry students blocked roads near the campus demanding for the arrest of the deceased's boyfriend.

Following a complaint lodged by Prakriti’s cousin Siddhant Sigdel (24), who is also a third-year student at the university, police arrested Advik Srivastava (21) for allegedly harassing the girl.
