Bhubaneswar, Ap 15: A new 45-kilometre-long 220 KV power line has been launched to improve electricity supply in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and nearby areas. This new transmission line, connecting Nuapada to Pratapsasan, was officially switched by OPTCL Chairman and MD Bhaskar Sarma, along with other senior officials.
The project was carried out by AK Das Associates. Earlier, the region used to get power from the 400 KV Meramundali grid. With the new line, power will now come through the PGCIL Padibahal substation, which is expected to make the supply more stable and reliable.
Though the project faced problems such as land access issues and some local opposition, it was completed on schedule. Amiyakanta Das, MD of AK Das Associates, thanked OPTCL, local authorities, and residents for their support in completing this important work.
The new line improves the reliability of electricity supply, meaning fewer power cuts and better voltage stability. This is especially helpful for households, industries, and hospitals that rely on consistent power.
The Meramundali grid was located farther away, which made the power flow less efficient and more prone to voltage drops or transmission losses. The new line shortens the transmission path and connects directly to a better-suited substation.
