New Delhi, Feb 16: The Railways Ministry on Sunday announced compensation for the victims of the tragic stampede which took place at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night and claimed as many as 18 lives.
The Railways Ministry has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those with serious injuries and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
Taking to his ‘X’ handle, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his condolences and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the unfortunate stampede… My prayers are with all those who have lost their loved ones.”
The Delhi Police has released a list of the 18 victims who lost their lives in the tragic incident. Among the deceased were four children, aged 7, 8, 11, and 12.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended their condolences over the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station which claimed the lives of 18 people, including two children.
Notably, a tragic stampede took place at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday, claiming the lives of 18 people. The incident occurred around 10 pm, as thousands of devotees were making their way to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival, leading to intense overcrowding at the station.
Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Himanshu Upadhyay, stated that at the time of the incident, the Patna-bound Magadh Express was stationed at platform number 14, while the New Delhi-Jammu Uttar Sampark Kranti Express was on platform number 15.
He explained that the stampede was triggered when some people, descending from the foot over bridge towards platforms 14 and 15 using the stairs, slipped and fell onto others.
