Bhubaneswar, Ap 3: As a part of 'Odia Pakhya' celebrations, the Odisha Government has invited its staff and the public to wear traditional handloom textiles today, in an effort to celebrate and promote the state's textile heritage.
The initiative, named 'Aama Posaka Aama Parichaya' aims to promote awareness and support for the handloom industry in Odisha.
In a letter to all Secretaries, Departmental Heads, and District Collectors, Poonam Guha Tapas Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating it will not only demonstrate the diverse handloom traditions of the state of Odisha, but will simply encourage more people to try using local fabrics.
In order to promote the public to purchase handloom products, state-run establishments such as Boyanika, Utkalika, Amlan, and Sambalpuri Bastralaya will be offering a discount of 20% 10% on handloom products.
This promotion began on April 1, 2025, and will continue until April 14, 2025. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has released a special message to urge the people of Odisha to wear handloom attair for the celebration.
He emphasized that this program would not only help local weavers but would also enhance the rural economy and positively influence the state's prosperity. State Minister for Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, Suryabanshi Suraj, reiterated the Chief Minister's appeal and asked everyone from all directions to embrace and move forward with the state's heritage of handlooms. The handloom heritage celebration underpins the core values of supporting creators and ensuring the vitality of Odisha's cultural artisanal fields.
