Bhubaneswar, January 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik have expressed heartfelt condolences following the tragic loss of lives during a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Majhi shared, "The news of several devotees losing their lives in the stampede at the Sangam during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj is deeply tragic." He further added, "May Lord Jagannath bless the departed souls with peace and grant strength to the grieving families to endure this immense loss. I also wish a swift recovery to all those injured."

Former Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik also expressed his sorrow, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the stampede that occurred ahead of the Mauni Amavasya holy dip at the ongoing #Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's #Prayagraj. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured."

The stampede took place early Wednesday morning during the 'Amrit Snan' on the auspicious day of Mauni Amavasya.

Thousands of pilgrims had gathered in Prayagraj to participate in the ritual bath during Mauni Amavasya.
