Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is set to present his first budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the state Assembly today.
As per reports, the state's budget for the financial year 2025-26 is expected to reach Rs 2.85 lakh crore. The government had approved an expenditure estimate of Rs 2.65 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25, with an additional supplementary Budget of Rs 12,156 crore to speed up specific schemes and cover various government program expenses.
Amidst speculation about the inclusion of new schemes in the upcoming Budget, the Odisha government has announced that priority will be given to solar power projects, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Subhadra Yojana, input subsidies on rice for farmers, a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 for the elderly, and the Ayushman Yojana.
In 2024-25, new schemes like Subhadra Yojana, Samriddha Krishi Yojana, and Madho Singh Hatha Kharcha were introduced for which the state government had allocated around Rs 10,000 crore, Rs 5,000 crore, and Rs 156 crore respectively.
Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan stated that the Budget for 2025-26 is designed to accelerate the state's development. The government aims to introduce several new schemes with a focus on employment, increasing the earning capacity of the population, strengthening Odisha's economy, and promoting industrialization and infrastructure development.
