Deogarh, Feb 18: In a tragic incident, an elephant was reportedly electrocuted after coming in contact with live wires laid by poachers to hunt wild animals in the Riamal Range under Kundheigola section of Odisha’s Deogarh Forest Division.
According to sources, the incident has been reported from Gariapali village in the Riamal Range when some villagers spotted the elephant’s lifeless body and alerted the Forest Department.
Upon getting the information, Forest Department officials arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation.
Though the exact reason behind the pachyderm’s death is yet to be ascertained, prima facie reveals that the elephant might have been electrocuted reportedly after coming in contact with live wires laid by poachers to hunt boar last night.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter and search operation in the area is underway to gather more details.
