Bhubaneswar, October 5: Odisha farmers will receive high-yield potato seeds by the first week of November, said Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, who holds the Agriculture department, during a press conference in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The state government is procuring these seeds from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, aiming to ensure timely distribution ahead of the planting season.
The minister announced a comprehensive revamp of the state’s Potato Mission, extending its tenure by three years to increase tuber production and support farmers.
In addition to seed distribution, the mission will focus on developing cold storage facilities at the sub-division level through public-private partnerships (PPP), helping farmers store their produce and minimize post-harvest losses.
KV Singh Deo also criticized the previous BJD government, citing delays in seed distribution, which affected farmers’ productivity under the earlier scheme.
He emphasized that the revamped mission will resolve these issues with timely support for farmers.
