Bhubaneswar, February 26: Tapan Nahak, the Kujang IIC, was sent to jail after his bail application was rejected by the Magistrate today.

Earlier, Nahak had been suspended for ‘gross misconduct and abuse of official position’ following allegations that he had engaged in a physical relationship with a female home guard, falsely promising marriage.

In a statement issued by the police headquarters, Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania announced Nahak's immediate suspension, citing the need to maintain public service integrity and ensure a fair inquiry. A disciplinary proceeding against Nahak has also been initiated.

Following his suspension, Nahak was arrested and presented in court. It is alleged that the officer had a physical relationship with the home guard approximately two months ago during his tenure as the additional IIC of Jagatsinghpur. The home guard, who worked at the same police station, later filed a complaint at the Jagatsinghpur police station after Nahak refused to marry her.
