Odisha govt to give Rs 5k to each tribal student under Madho Singh Haath Kharch Yojana

Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: Odisha government has decided to implement the Saheed Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Yojana in the current year in the state to curb the dropout rate among the tribal students and encourage them to pursue higher education.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed Assembly on Thursday that a decision in this regard had been taken by the state Cabinet on September 4 with allocation of a budget of Rs 156 crore for the scheme.

As per the Cabinet decision, an incentive of Rs 5,000 will be given to ST students per annum who will be admitted to Class IX after passing Class VIII and to students taking admission in + 2 after matriculation.

The scheme will benefit three lakh tribal students, the Minister said.
