Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in the state, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced that the state government will establish a medical college in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
This was revealed during the discussion on Appropriation Bill in the Assembly.
CM Majhi has announced that a medical college will be set up in Jagatsinghpur. The state government is also working to establish an airfield in the district, said Paradeep MLA and Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain.
Earlier, the state government had promised to set up medical colleges in all districts of Odisha within the next five years.
In 2014, the Union Government introduced a rule to establish medical colleges in every district across the country. Under this rule, the Centre and state governments will share the cost in a 60:40 ratio.
Currently, Odisha has 13 government medical colleges, all of which are affiliated with Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS).
