Cuttack, Apr 24: Excise Department officials on Thursday busted an illegal liquor factory in Chaudwar locality of Odisha’s Cuttack district and seized spurious liquor worth over Rs 15 lakhs.
The cops have also arrested the factory’s in-charge, Madhusudan Rout, in connection with the case.
After receiving tip-off regarding the illicit liquor factory, the Excise Department sleuths conducted a raid at Kapaleswar area under Chaudwar police limits in the district.
The factory was manufacturing counterfeit liquor by imitating genuine brands with fake labels and packaging.
The raid has uncovered a larger case, with the suspected mastermind, Joy Subham—a youth from Bihar—still on the run. Sources said that Subham had rented the property and was running the illegal liquor factory.
The department has also issued a warning to the public, urging people to be careful when buying liquor, as consuming fake alcohol can be extremely dangerous and potentially life-threatening.
