Jajpur, April 24: Chairperson of Vyasanagar Municipality, Sangeeta Pingua has been officially removed from her position after a no-confidence motion moved against her was upheld.
A formal notification issued by the State Urban Development Department confirmed her removal.
The seat, reserved for women from the Scheduled Tribes, was won by Pingua in the last municipal elections. However, her tenure came under scrutiny due to allegations of arbitrary decision-making, failure to uphold the confidence of council members, and neglect of city development initiatives.
Acting on growing dissent, the municipal council moved a no-confidence motion, which was subsequently acted upon under the directive of the Jajpur District Collector. The vote, held on April 2, saw 20 out of 26 councilors voting in favor of the motion, with six members remaining absent.
Citing Section 23 of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950, the state government acknowledged the two-thirds majority support for the motion and proceeded with Pingua's dismissal. The Urban Development Department, in its notification, stated that she has been relieved of all duties and responsibilities as Chairperson.
