New Delhi, April 17: While the mysterious death of a Nepali girl student on the KIIT Campus in Bhubaneswar, Odisha defamed the educational ecosystem in the University, the issue was recently raised in Parliament.
Responding to a query on the KIIT issue, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the suspicious death of the Nepali girl in Bhubaneswar, Odisha prompted calls for legal and administrative action, in the Lok Sabha.
Government of India was deeply saddened at the tragic incident took place on 16 February 2025, said Singh.
Underlining the MEA’s remedial measures following the issue, Singh said, with the reports of unrest on the campus and closure of the varsity sine die for all Nepali students, the Ministry of External Affairs liaised with the Odisha Government, KIIT authorities, and Nepal government to ensure corrective action and to prevent any escalation of the situation.
“The State government constituted a high-level Fact Finding Committee, and appropriate legal and administrative action would be taken against the KIIT University based on the findings of the Committee,” the MoS said in a written reply, presented before the house.
Citing the Odisha government’s measures on the delicate issue, Singh said the state government is awaiting a report from the high-level fact-finding committee that is investigating the incident.
Worth mentioning, the Nepali girl’s body was recovered from her hostel room in KIIT Bhubaneswar on February 16 that wreaked violence on the campus.
