Odisha: Man opens fire on three of his family members over property dispute

Dhenkanal, Apr 7: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly opened fire on three of his family members with a country-made pistol over a property dispute in Govindpur area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

The accused has been identified as Mayadhar Behera and the incident has been reported from Talabarakota village under Govindpur outpost.

As per reports, Mayadhar shot his wife Kaikei Behera, son Bana Behera, and sister-in-law Subhadra Behera with a country-made pistol reportedly over a property dispute. His barbaric actions did not stop there as he attacked them with a sharp weapon later.

The trio sustained critical injuries in the attack. After learning about the incident, some local residents rescued them and rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal for treatment. 

All three of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their health condition deteriorated.

Upon getting the information, Gobindpur police arrived at the scene and launched a probe into the matter. The cops have also arrested the accused and seized the country-made pistol and knife used in the attack from his possession.

Further investigation into the matter was underway.
