Sundargarh, Mar 3: In a gruesome murder driven by revenge, a woman and her husband allegedly killed a man who had raped the woman and later threatened them to withdraw the case after securing bail in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar Yadav (28), a native of Bihar, and the incident has been reported from Teliposh village under Birmitrapur police limits in the district.
As per reports, Yadav allegedly raped the woman in January 2023 when she was alone at her home and warned her of dire consequences if she discloses the incident before her husband.
Her ordeal did not end there. Yadav continued to sexually assault her whenever she was home alone for the subsequent four months.
Unable to bear the pain and torture, the woman finally disclosed about the incident before her husband in May. Following this, he lodged a complaint with the police and Yadav was arrested. He was booked for rape and sent to Rourkela Special Jail.
Six months back, Yadav secured bail and started threatening the couple to withdraw the case. On Saturday evening, he once again arrived at their home and issued threats. The woman, who was alone at the time, immediately informed her husband.
Upon returning, the husband asked his wife for a bow and arrow. Moments later, he shot Yadav, killing him on the spot. Later, they dumped his body in a nullah.
Later in the night, some locals spotted the body floating and alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the body before sending it for post-mortem.
The cops initiated an investigation into the matter during which the couple confessed to the crime.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
