Bhubaneswar, Mar 31: A Special Vigilance Court in Angul has sentenced a retired staffer of Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha (CESU), currently TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), to four years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict identified as Kulamani Pradhan, a retired draftsman.
According to an official press release, Pradhan was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant in exchange for providing a domestic electricity connection.
Following the court's ruling, Pradhan was taken into custody to serve his sentence.
In addition, the Vigilance Department is aiming to approach the relevant authorities to halt his pension following this conviction.
