Angul, Jan 19: In a midnight heist, miscreants allegedly looted cash, gold and three golden crowns that adorned the deities' idols at the famous Saila Srikhetra Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Angul district.

As per reports, the incident took place on Friday night when the robbers reportedly entered the temple by forcibly opening the gate and decamped with cash from the donation box, gold ornaments along with the three crowns.

The matter came to light on Saturday morning when the temple priest arrived for daily rituals and found the gate broken.

Thereafter, the temple authorities informed the local police who then arrived at the scene and launched a probe into the matter to identify and nab the culprits involved.

Notably, miscreants allegedly looted valuables worth over Rs 30 lakh from Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Bhanjanagar and the Maa Budhisantani Thakurani Temple in Ganjam on Saturday in similar manner.

In addition to the valuables, the robbers reportedly made off with Rs 30,000 in cash.
