Bhubaneswar, January 16: The Odisha government has announced that recipients of Padma Awards from the state will receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 30,000 from this month. This decision was made in recognition of their exceptional contributions to society in various fields.

The notification was issued by the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture on Thursday. It stated, “In recognition of the significant contributions made by the Padma awardees of Odisha in various sectors, the state government has decided to offer them an honorarium of Rs 30,000 per month.”

The honorarium will be directly transferred to the recipients via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) starting January 2025. The department has also instructed district Collectors and District Cultural Officers to provide details of all living Padma awardees in their districts as soon as possible.

Previously, in March 2024, the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government announced an honorarium of Rs 25,000 per month for Padma awardees from Odisha.

Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honors and are given annually in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the nation in fields such as Arts, Literature, Education, Social Work, Medicine, Engineering, and more.

Since the inception of the Padma Awards in 1954, 106 people from Odisha have been honored with these prestigious awards for their outstanding achievements, bringing pride to the state.
