Joda, Sep 27: Several initiatives have been taken for the holistic development of Joda region through initiatives not only for environment management, community development, infrastructure support, but also the construction of the parks, which have always been much loved by the residents of the region. Parks are key to ensuring the health of our environment because they play a critical role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem, providing clean air, and enabling conservation of natural resources. Parks have intrinsic benefits for cities by improving the environment, aesthetics, and creating recreation areas. In a bid to cater to these diverse need, three parks and one medicinal garden in Joda was built and is being maintained by Tata Steel. A rain water harvesting project, spread over 5.2 acres, has been transformed into a park, encompasses various features such as a yoga corner, exercise area, children’s play area, gym area, walking track, butterfly park, artificial hill, colourful floating fountains and lush green lawns. The Centenary Park facing the Ferro-Alloys Plant, Joda has been carved out of wasteland and developed into an attractive park. Before the park was developed, this barren wasteland, along the main road in Joda was used as a parking space by trucks or to graze animals by the locals. Tata Steel landscaped this 22,500 square feet stretch to build the park, a testimony to the Company’s commitment to the environment. Residents of Joda now relax in the park with their family and friends, breathe in fresh air as well as enjoy its greenery and three water fountains. Dorabji Tata Botanical Park, near the Tata Steel Hospital at Joda West, is yet another park dedicated by the Company to the community. It is open to the general public, who regularly spend time in the nature. Abutting the Botanical Park is the Medicinal Park, which is not only a reflection of Tata Steel`s commitment to the environment but also an initiative to revive the lost medicinal value of the local region’s traditional herbs and medicinal plants.
