PM Modi accepted President Muizzu's invitation to visit Maldives next year : FS Vikram Misri

New Delhi, October 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation from Maldives' President Mohamed Muizzu to visit Male on a state visit next year, as confirmed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a special briefing on Monday. 

The exact dates of the visit will be arranged through diplomatic channels.

President Muizzu, who is currently on a five-day visit to India, expressed gratitude for the warm reception he and his delegation received. 

The two leaders discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and explored ways to address emerging regional challenges. 

Foreign Secretary Misri stated that the outcomes of Muizzu's visit will help elevate India-Maldives relations to new heights.

Earlier, PM Modi and President Muizzu held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, followed by delegation-level discussions, which included key figures such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. 

PM Modi emphasized the importance of defense cooperation, noting that India will continue supporting the Maldives in training its National Defence Forces, contributing to regional stability in the Indian Ocean.

Modi also highlighted climate change as a shared concern and expressed India's willingness to collaborate on solar energy and energy efficiency initiatives with the Maldives.

Muizzu's visit underscores the deepening ties between the two nations, with both leaders aiming to strengthen security and economic cooperation in the years ahead.
